I'm very pleased to tell you that I attended the Sense Annual Awards ceremony today in London and I was awarded the Sense Young Deafblind Person of the Year award! Awards were presented by Linda Barker who has done lots of TV work (changing places, I'm a celeb etc)
I hope my good luck continues for the Lincs Sports Awards next month!
Congratulations on your award! You are a hard worker and the public would realise that we can make our own goals like others. I am very grateful for your reply on the issue of hearing aids at mainstream tournaments. However, I do wonder how you know the decisions made by the judges? As far as I know, Judo tends to be on ground a lot and it must be difficult to see through the transitions. Anyway, good luck with the awards and Judo!
ReplyDeleteHi Cindy, I have to rely on the judges tapping me (sometimes my opponents will as well as they are beginning to get to know that I am hearing/vision impaired!) I have to speak with the judges before all fights and let them know about my issues (although they often forget!) One particular referee thought I should lip read all his instructions (from the ground - with a vision impairment!) Needless to say that did not happen!! :)
